Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to file limits within most MP3 players, you should only keep one Level on your MP3 player at any one time. One Level of Spanish or French contains between 7,500 and 13,000 MP3 files with ID3 tags that contain the text. Not every MP3 player can support this many files or ID3 tags. Please review your MP3 player's instruction manual to ensure it will support up to 13,000 MP3 files with ID3 tags before downloading anything from Loquella.com. These lessons were created to be used on an iPod and other brands may NOT be compatible.

How to Check If You Have Enough Room on Your iPod For an Entire Level:

  • Turn on iPod
  • Select Settings
  • Select About
  • Here you will see how many files (“Songs”) you already have in your iPod. Make sure there are less than 10,000 Songs on your iPod. One Level can be up to 13,000 “Songs”. If you already have more than 10,000 Songs on your iPod, remove enough Songs to make room for the language lessons before uploading.

Directions for Downloading Language Lesson Files:

  • After purchasing any of the Levels you will get a link that says “Download Product”
  • Click the “Download Product” link
  • You will be given the option to Open or Save. Press Save
  • Select the directory you want to have the files installed on. We recommend that you save it in the directory where you keep your other music files
  • One Level might takes about 20 minutes to download to your computer, depending on your connection speed
  • Once download is complete, click Close
  • Go to directory where you saved your zip file
  • Right click in the zip file and select “Extract All”. This will create a new folder
  • Use the default name, which will be the same as the name of the zip file
  • When prompted, click Finish
  • When you open the folder, which was just created when you extracted the files, you will see two folders and one document called “Important Information”. Read the Important Information document before proceeding. The folders you will see are called “SpanishLevelMP3” and “SpanishLevelPDF” or "FrenchLevelMP3" and "FrenchLevelPDF" depending on the language.
  • Open iTunes
  • Create a Playlist for Loquella
  • Slide SpanishLevelMP3 or FrenchLevelMP3 folder from Music directory into the new Playlist you created - You should create one playlist per Level to ensure you don't synch more than one level to your iPod at one time.
  • You should see a message that says “adding files” in your iTunes player
  • When the files are in the Playlist, it will still take a couple minutes for iTunes to analyze the files. Let it finish this process completely before moving on to the next step
  • Once the files are processed in the iTunes player, you can synch your iPod. NOTE: Only one Level at a time can reside in your MP3 player due to file restrictions within most MP3 players
  • Always detach your iPod from iTunes safely by double clicking the icon next to the iPod in iTunes
  • DO NOT Disconnect iPod while it says “Do Not Disconnect” on iPod screen. Always double click icon next to media player icon in iTunes before disconnecting. Always wait for the message “Do Not Disconnect” to disappear from iPod before disconnecting
  • To access the PDF’s for each lesson, simply open the folder named “SpanishLevelPDF” or "FrenchLevelPDF" and open up the PDF you want
  • There is one PDF for each lesson. Each PDF can be printed out and read while listening to the lessons on your MP3 player. If you have an iPod with a screen, all text contained within the PDF will show up in the screen of your player with the corresponding audio. If you do not have an iPod or MP3 player that allows you to view text while listening to audio, then the PDF can be printed so you can follow along with corresponding text while listening to the audio

Directions for Using Lessons on iPod:

Starting the Lessons:

  • Turn on iPod
  • Go to Settings
  • In Settings, select “Backlight Timer” option
  • Select “Always On” so that the light will stay on so you can continuously view text
  • In Settings click Main Menu, then make sure Playlists, Artists, Albums and Songs are On
  • Return to Settings and press About to see how much space you have left in your iPod before uploading anything from Loquella. Make sure there are less than 20,000 Songs on your iPod. One Level can be up to 10,000 Songs. If you already have more than 20,000 Songs on your iPod, remove enough Songs to make room for one Level before uploading
  • Return to “Main Menu”
  • Select Music
  • Select Album
  • Find the Album with the Lesson number you want. Each Lesson begins with the language you are learning followed by the Lesson number. For examples, if you want Spanish lesson one, you would look for an Album named Spanish-001
  • You will see a file name. Click the “Play” button one time
  • The audio will start to play
  • To view the text on the iPod Classic, iPod 5th Generation (also known as iPod video) or iPod Nano double click the middle button while the audio is playing. To view the text on the iPod Touch or iPhone single click on the middle button while the audio is playing.
  • At this point you should be hearing the audio and viewing the text simultaneously

Moving Backwards and Forwards:

  • Each “Sentence” has a three second pause that will allow you to repeat what you heard before the next Sentence is played automatically
  • If you wish to move faster through each Sentence than the provided three-second pause, simply click the forward button
  • To move back to previous “Sentences” click the back button one time for each Sentence you wish to skip
  • To pause, click the Play/Pause button
  • To read an entire Grammar tip, you may need to slide down using the same slider used to control the volume
  • You may also need to pause a Grammar tip to read the entire thing. Simply press the play button again when you are ready to continue

Changing the Volume:

  • To change the volume during a lesson, you will need to stop viewing the text portion
  • To stop viewing the text, double click the middle button again
  • You will be returned to a screen that does not show text, but the audio will continue to play. In this screen, adjust your volume accordingly
  • To return to seeing the text, double click the middle button again
  • Levels versus Lessons:

There are four Levels for Spanish and two Levels for French:

  • Each Spanish Level contains 15 Lessons, except Level IV, which has 18 Lessons (including 8 “Dialect Lessons”). Each Spanish Lesson contains between 500 and 1000 Sentences.
  • Each French Level contains six lessons. Each lesson contains up to 3,000 sentences (MP3 files).
  • In your iPod each Level will be called a Playlist (if you create a Playlist). Each Lesson will be called an Album. Within each Lesson/Album are Songs (also known as Sentences). If you are not using an iPod, the naming conventions may be different, but the breakdown of how to access your lessons should be the same in any MP3 player.
