Learn Mandarin Chinese with Your iPod
The iPod Chinese lessons not only allow you to hear the Chinese language audio on your iPod, you will also read the text in Pinyin and see the Chinese characters in your iPod's screen. (Chinese characters are introduced in Level II). By hearing and reading each sentence or phrase you will be able to retain vocabulary and master pronunciation faster than by hearing audio alone. You will hear the English translation in the audio portion of the lessons. The iPod Chinese lessons will play continuously on your iPod once you begin a lesson, but you can go faster or go backwards using your players back and forward buttons. This way, you can go through each sentence as quickly or slowly as necessary. A three second pause is automatically provided between each sentence so you have enough time to repeat what you heard out loud. You can also pause the Chinese lesson at any time.

About Each Mandarin Chinese Level:
The Mandarin Chinese iPod lessons focus on teaching Chinese pronunciation and vocabulary through extensive language drills. You will hear and say each Chinese word several times in a row throughout the same Chinese lesson. This is to ensure proper pronunciation is developed early on, and that vocabulary is thoroughly memorized. Make sure you repeat each Chinese word or sentence out load as many times as necessary to memorize it. Each lesson is based on the method and material created by the Foreign Service Institute.
Learn Chinese Level I
Level I contains 34 lessons and will take about 14 hours to complete. Level I focuses heavily on teaching proper pronunciation. Due to the emphasis on pronunciation in this level, Chinese characters are not included in this level. Characters are first introduced in Level II. The first Chinese lesson introduces the four tones of standard Chinese. To help you focus on the tones, these Chinese lessons make use of only the simplest and most obvious consonants involved. The PDF that is included will be necessary for viewing the charts and graphs that are included as a learning aid, especially for Level I. Learn more about each Chinese lesson in Level I.

Level II contains 44 lessons and will take about 16 hours to complete. Before you start this Level it is recommended that you have already completed Level I. Level II deals with simple conversations needed for greetings, introductions, understanding and answering questions about yourself and your family. It also addresses what to say at the end of a conversation (leave taking). Level II includes Chinese characters that correspond to the text written in Pinyin.
